Obituary: Remembering Leo James Ferguson

Leo James Ferguson, 83, of Corsicana, Texas, formerly of Hillsboro, Texas, passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2022, in Corsicana. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, October 29, 2022, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro, Texas, with Pastor Stephen Burnett officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory in Hillsboro. Visitation will take place from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Friday, October 28, 2022, at Marshall and Marshall.

Leo was born October 9, 1939, in Caldwell County to Robert and Elda (Dubose) Ferguson. He grew up in Lockhart and graduated from Lockhart High School. After graduation, he moved to San Antonio and did paint and body work. Leo met the love of his life, Merle Schronk and they were united in marriage June 18, 1966, in Bynum, Texas. The couple then moved to the Hill County area where Leo worked for the Spartan Cooper Plant for several years. Next, he went to work for Hilco Electric Cooperative, where he remained until retiring in 2003. Leo enjoyed playing bingo, singing (especially Fifth Sunday Singings), picking up pecans, and spending time with his family and grandchildren. Leo was a faithful and active member of Lakenon Baptist Church where he served as deacon, after moving to Corsicana he became a member of the First Baptist Church of Corsicana.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Merle Ferguson on October 20, 2002; his sister, Viola Lipscomb; and his brother, Joe Ferguson. Survivors include his children, Janice Jaquish and husband, Scott, Karen Stephens and husband, Michael, Kevin Ferguson and wife, Michelle; his brothers, Robert Ferguson Jr. and wife, Marie, John Ferguson and wife, Alice, Willard Ferguson and wife, Betty Margaret; his sister, Melba Smith and husband, James II; nine grandchildren, Kirsten Jaquish, Aaron Thedford, Misty Stephens, Micah Stephens, Meagan Stephens, Toby Ferguson, Shelby Ferguson, Gracie Ferguson, Ruthie Ferguson; great-granddaughter, Ava Thedford; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
