Through the generosity of the Make All the Difference and the Mammogram Poster Girls, Hill Regional Hospital will be offering free 3-d mammograms to uninsured women in Hill County and the surrounding area.
The screening will take place Friday, October 27 and Saturday, October 28th at the hospital from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. A doctor’s orders are not needed to schedule an appointment. Appointments are still available, and participants will receive a coupon for a free meal from Overflow Coffee and additional “swag” from other donors.
The Make All the Difference Foundation (MAD) is a family endeavor started by Robin Bostic, a native of Hillsboro with strong ties to this community. They selected the Mammogram Poster Girls (MPG) organization in Dallas to receive a grant to provide free mammograms.
Sherri Mathis, founder and board president of MPG, is a two-time conqueror of breast cancer. All of her sisters have also had breast cancer – all discovered through a routine mammogram.
Sherri said, “I realized that not all women were as lucky as my sisters and I had been, due either to lack of healthcare access, education, or funds, and many women simply could not, would not, get that annual preventative breast cancer screening.”
While mammography screening is recommended for women age 40-74, breast cancer does not discriminate at any age or gender. A mammography often can detect the smallest of abnormalities through a 3-D screening, and statistics prove that early detection is the best protection against breast cancer.
Hill Regional is grateful that these two organizations have chosen to provide this opportunity to uninsured women of Hill County.
The Mission Hillsboro Medical-Clinic is part of this initiative and will provide follow-up care for women who have an abnormality that is found during their screening.
Uninsured women who wish to participate are asked to call 254-580-8597 to schedule an appointment for October 27 or 28.
