The Dorothy Gaines Foundation recently announced grant awards for 2024. Mrs. Gaines was a native of Hill County who lived the majority of her life in Fort Worth, but always considered Hill county her “home.”
The Foundation was originally established in 2003 with the primary purpose of promoting the quality of life in Hill and Tarrant counties.
Grants up to $10,000 are awarded annually for specific projects, building, and capital-improvement campaigns or for general purposes where organizations are working to combat social problems, elevate the family and contribute to the social, economic and cultural well being of Hill and Tarrant counties.
The Foundation made grants totaling $73,800 in 2024 to thirteen non-profit organizations. The recipients are: Abbott Ag Booster Club – $6,000 (Purchase New Stock Trailer); Aquilla ISD – $6,000 (Purchase Welding Equipment); CASA of Hill County Texas – $3,300 (Purchase items for library and fund miscellaneous items for children in need including school supplies, shoes, clothing, school uniforms, etc.); Community Partners of Tarrant County, Inc. – $5,000 (Purchase jeans and back to school supplies for students in CPS system in Tarrant County); Covington Volunteer Fire Department, Inc.- $6,000 (Purchase a LUCAS 2 Device); Friends of the Hillsboro City Library – $10,000 (Support Hillsboro Library Expansion Project); Hill County Child Protective Services Board – $10,000 (Reimburse caregivers for clothing purchases for foster children); Hill County Kids – $7,000 (Purchase food items for kid friendly meals and snacks); Hill County Paw Pals – $6,000 (Replacement of Aging Commercial Washing Machine); Hillsboro Arts League – $5,000 (Fund Hillsboro Downtown Murals); Hillsboro Cub Scout Pack 860 – $1,000 (Upgrade Electric System); Hubbard ISD Education Foundation – $5,000 (Innovative Teachers’ Classroom Grants); and, Sleep In Heavenly Peace TX – Whitney – $3,500 (Provide beds for kids in need).
