2/18/25, the day the Itasca Wampus Cats boys go to their first-round basketball playoff game against the Lipan Indians. A day that will not be forgotten for a long time. The boys played a hard-fought game against the Indians, whom of which is the district champion in their district and a state-qualifying competitor that won state championship a couple of years back. This playoff game shocked everyone, especially for the opposing crowd who thought that this would be an easy game for Lipan. When the game started, Itasca and Lipan were in a constant struggle to be in the lead. Itasca was on fire! They were constantly shooting successful 3s, 2s, and even stealing the ball a couple of times during the first half of the game. A couple of seconds before the 2nd quarter ended, Maddox Abrego lobs the ball from the opposing team’s third-point shooting range and into our goal! Itasca was now up by 5 points with the score being 35-30 by the time 2nd quarter ended. This insane shot made the gym roar with levity from the Itasca crowd! However, that was all short-lived during the second half of the game. Although Itasca managed to keep up, Lipan started to amp up their game as well. Game ended 51-64, officially ending the Itasca basketball 24-25 season. Throughout the season, all the players, especially the seniors, kept working hard and practiced even in times when majority of players were sick or when school was on break. We appreciate those that came out and support Itasca basketball season through its end.
