Itasca Wampus Cats Varsity Football VS. Kerens Bobcats Photo Gallery
September 23, 2022 wasn’t a great day for any Wampus Cat fan or player alike. Sadly, our boys came out against Kerens with a loss; they fought hard and battled ‘till the very end. Now the referees weren’t helping our boys out too much, but that’s not something they can control. They can only have the strength to persevere.
Our offensive team did a very good job for themselves, in spite of the fact we lost. David Torres, our starting sophomore running back, had 28 attempts rushing with 117 yards to show for it. Gavin Sewell had 7 attempts rushing for 110 yards and 1 touchdown. Buddy Jackson, our starting sophomore quarterback, and a true leader for our team, threw for 221 yards and 3 touchdowns. With Gavin Sewell to catch 9 throws for 141 yards and 3 receiving touchdowns. As well as, Kayd Lightsey with 5 catches for 41 yards. Offensively, we had a total of 516 yards, which is a seasons best.
Defensively is where we lost the game with Kerens getting a total of 490 yards on our boys, averaging 9.1 yards per attempt. Kayd Lightsey, our star linebacker did well as always with 10 tackles and 4 assists. Robert Ford coming in a close second had 6 tackles and 5 assists. With Gavin Sewell at safety, he had 2 tackles and 1 interception for a touchdown.
Our boys did very well, and they were not beaten, but they had lost the game instead, which is a big difference. If our boys had only done a better job defensively, the outcome of the game would’ve been very different.
