Obituary: James Richard Comer

James Richard Comer, 88, of Itasca, Texas, passed away on December 4, 2022, at his home in Itasca. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, December
8, 2022, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors, Hillsboro, Texas, with burial to follow at the Itasca Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 6:00 to 8:00 pm,
Wednesday, December 7, 2022.

Richard was born July 30, 1934, in Pluto, Texas, to James Bunion and Vada Ann (Jones) Comer. He started working in the Pruitt Cotton Gin at the age of sixteen. After Pruitt Cotton Gin was closed, Richard started working for the Itasca Cotton Gin and the Co-Op Grain until his retirement in 1996. He served with the Itasca Volunteer Fire Department for many years and received a Lifetime Membership plaque in 1994. Richard loved to attend and participate in “flea Markets” when he was able. He never met a stranger, was a good friend to many and will be greatly missed.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents; two sons, James Melvin Comer and Adam Lee Comer; his sister, Dorothy Ann Hestand; and his brother, Hollis Comer. He is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Juanita Eailene (Keller) Comer; his children, John Richard Comer, David Alan Comer, Corliss and her husband, Dick Morin, Melissa Olivas, Paul Darwood Comer and his wife, Jenny, Andrew Thomas Comer and his wife Mandy, Jennifer Ann and her husband, Bobby Leach, Johnnie James Comer, and Alexandra Marie Comer; eighteen grandchildren; eleven great-
grandchildren; his sister, Elizabeth Ann Upchurch; sister-in-law, Sue Comer; and many nieces and nephews.
