Itasca ISD welcomes Damon Patterson to the district. He would describe himself as trustworthy, loyal, and friendly. Mr. Patterson is originally from West Covina, California, and his hometown is McGregor, Texas, where he also graduated high school. While in McGregor, he participated in several extracurriculars, including football, baseball, track, and tennis. After high school, he attended the University of North Texas, and graduated with a degree in Education in 1984. Mr. Patterson has been a teacher and coach for 41 years. He decided to teach science out of all subjects because he says, “science is very interesting and fascinating to learn”. He was inspired to teach because he wanted to make a difference in teaching and coaching. He has two children, his daughter Whitley, and his son Damon Jr. His spouse is Nancy Patterson. Mr. Patterson recently came from Joshua, Texas where he was a principal at. He decided to come to Itasca because he wanted to return as a teacher here. Mr. Patterson taught and coached here at Itasca 31 years ago. When asked who his biggest role model was he answered, “Jesus”. Some of his favorite things are, pizza, sweet tea, playing golf, and the movie Tombstone. Something unique about him is his sense of humor. If he wasn’t a teacher, he would want to be a salesman. Mr. Patterson’s advice to high school kids is to make sure you get a post-high school education. His favorite quote is, “Life is 10% what happens to you, and 90% how you react to it.”
