This week marks Teacher Appreciation Week for all of our wonderful teachers. Our teachers work vigilantly each school year to nourish our minds and build our knowledge from ground zero to prepare us for the real world, where we will put the lessons they taught us to use in almost everything we do. No matter if it’s taxes, working a job, or having a good vocabulary. Their lessons are crystallized in our minds as we continue to grow into young adults.Â
The teacher I chose to highlight this week, is one that I had the pleasure of working under is Mrs. Mears, the reason I say she is my favorite teacher is because despite always being completely overloaded with work all of the time, she still finds a way to be a great motivator to us the staff members of the PPP, and all of the hard work she puts into promoting us and all the opportunities she has given me to try new things.Â
I interviewed her with some general questions about herself and some highlights about being a teacher here at Itasca High. Mrs. Mears’ birthday is October 7, 1989. She has worked at Itasca since 2019, and she started here as a paraprofessional. She was inspired to be a teacher when she was still a para, when she first times she helped a student. Later, the parents of that student gave her gratitude towards Mrs. Mears because she helped her student with learning, and she passed the STAAR test.Â
Despite being inspired to be a teacher by that parent, one of the hardest moments as a teacher was when she was thrown into teaching English in early 2020. Due to her inexperience in teaching, she found this difficult because she was expected to learn while teaching others. Despite that, she still managed to teach successfully, as one of her favorite things as a teacher is to build relationships with her students.Â
Some things to know about Mrs. Mears are that her favorite hobbies are watching movies, baking, and spending time with her family. She also doesn’t have a favorite song, but rather she enjoys all music genres. She says if she never became a teacher, she would probably be an Author, or head into a forensics career with her fascination with the topic. Her proudest accomplishment with being a teacher is continuing to have a successful organization, and having a creative Yearbook design each year.
Being apart of Mrs. Mears classroom has been a great pleasure and I really enjoy what I do for her class. I only hope the best for Mrs. Mears as the end of the school year approaches, and as we start a new one next year. being able to participate in writing and creating things for our school is something I have become very fond of and I grateful Mrs. Mears has given me this opportunity.
