Travis Eugene “Chimps” Farquhar
October 9, 1943 – October 2, 2025
Travis Eugene Farquhar, lovingly known by many as “Chimps,” of Itasca, Texas, went home to be with the Lord on October 2, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on October 9, 1943, Gene lived a life rooted in faith, family, music, and service to his community. He was a proud graduate of Itasca High School, Class of 1962. He was preceded in death by his parents, Travis and Allie Mae Farquhar; his sister, Linda Upchurch; his first wife, Dot Farquhar; and his son, Rob Farquhar.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Dianne Farquhar; his brother, Larry Farquhar and wife Kay; his sons, Ken Farquhar and wife Karon, and Tom Farquhar and wife Tracy; John Wayne and Michael Prescott, 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and countless friends and loved ones who were touched by his kindness, humor, and music.
Gene’s life was one of purpose and dedication. With his late wife Dot, he served as cottage parents for the Presbyterian Children’s Home in Itasca, where together they poured love into the lives of many children who still fondly remember them as family. He retired from the United States Post Office, but his true calling was sharing the joy of music and the love of God. As music director for the First Baptist Church of Itasca, he led worship with a heartfelt voice and the strum of his guitar, lifting spirits and bringing people closer to Christ.
Beyond the church, Gene served his community with a generous heart. He was an honorary member of the Itasca Volunteer Fire Department, active with Itasca ISD, and a proud supporter of school athletics—announcing football games, keeping the official books for baseball, and running the clock for basketball. His presence was a constant reminder of what it means to
show up for others.
When Gene wasn’t serving or working, he could often be found singing, picking his guitar, and joyfully spreading the word of God. He never met a stranger and carried with him an unshakable faith that inspired those around him.
Though he will be deeply missed, Gene leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and service that will live on through his family, his community, and the many lives he touched.
