Marvin Arnold Mertink, 87, passed away Sunday, November 24, 2024, in Hillsboro, Texas. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 am, Monday, December 2, 2024, at Christ Lutheran Church, Hillsboro, with Pastor Michael Nemec officiating followed by a burial at Hillcrest Garden of Memory, Hillsboro. A visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, Sunday, December 1, 2024, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.
Marvin was born October 2, 1937, to Theodore Herbert and Emma (Schulz) Mertink Bendix in Northrup, Texas. He served in the United States Army from July 12, 1956, until June 30, 1962. Marvin married Ruth Synatschk on April 11, 1959, in Smithville, Texas. After leaving the Army, Marvin and Ruth settled in Hillsboro, where he worked for Hill County Precinct 4 operating motor graders and shredders and repaired bridges. Prior to his work at Hill County, he worked at Rangaire Corporation for 21 years, where he formed the housings for florescent light fixtures and was the General Foreman in the Fabrication Department. Marvin was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church, Hillsboro.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Emma Mertink; his son, Stuart Todd Mertink; his stepfather, William H. Benedix; his brother, Paul W. Mertink; and his stepbrother, Burnell Benedix. Marvin is survived by his wife, Ruth S. Mertink; son Clifford D. Mertink; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Memorials can be given to a charity of choice.
