Today, I interviewed Anniya Crooks, a sophomore at Itasca High School, who decided to share her “Unforgettable Moment.”
“My unforgettable moment was getting into a car wreck. This happened last year, when I was on my way home from a birthday party in Houston with my great-grandmother and grandmother, and it was almost midnight. We had stopped at a red light, and when the light turned green we were going, but then a car came, stopped, and hit us. Both cars ended up totaling, and we got hit on the driver’s side. I was sitting in the back on the driver’s side taking a snap and when we got hit I hit my head on the back of the front seat and busted my lip, and I was leaned up against the car door. But I couldn’t feel anything because I was running on adrenaline, so once we got to the hospital my head and lip started hurting. We were there for about 6 hours, and I fell asleep briefly. After we got discharged I went to sleep in the car, and on the way home, in my uncle’s truck, we hit a deer. Then his car got totaled. The entire thing just made me scared to drive, and I was scared to even be in a car for a few months.”
Throughout Anniyas crazy night it made her more grateful for what she had, seeing it as a near-death experience since it could have ended up in a different turn. A few thoughts that ran through her mind was once hearing her Granny scream Anniya immediately thought she was going to die. But the most devastating part of the experience was “the fact that the food went everywhere.. that was a surprise to me cause I was hoping to have them leftovers.” The advice she would give is “Always wear your seatbelt, be grateful for what you have, ’cause it could be taken from you at any given moment, and don’t take anything for granted.”
