We all have our favorite teachers, and whether they were from elementary, middle school, or high school, a teacher had our favor. But what about our teachers now? Who impacted their lives, ultimately leading them to become teachers themselves? I interviewed 3 teachers to find out who their favorite teachers were growing up.
Mrs. Speer – English II & English IV Teacher
Mrs. Speer told me that instead of having a favorite teacher growing up, her favorites were her professors during her undergrad years in college, Dr. Palmer, Dr. Emery, and Dr. Porter. She described that they were truly professionals in their field, and their lessons left a big impact on how she teaches her students. One of her favorite memories was when she received her first A on a test for one of their classes, that was the first time Mrs. Speer received attention for her work, it left so much of an impact that she still keeps the assignment in her classroom with all of her precious letters she’s received from graduating students.
Mrs. Quijano – Spanish I & II Teacher
Next, I interviewed Mrs. Quijano. Her favorite teacher was her 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Covington. Her most vivid memory was every morning when Mrs. Quijano and her peers would walk into class, Mrs.Covington welcomed them with a hug. Mrs. Quijano explained how nice she would be to her and always kept her in mind.
Mr. Benson – CTE Teacher
Lastly, I interviewed Mr. Benson. He also told me one of his favorite teachers was, rather, a professor. His Philosophy professor Craig Belager, Mr. Benson told me his very fond memories about after each class, he and Mr. Belager would talk for hours in the college courtyard about the lesson he had taught that day. He told me it was mainly to pass the time, but he remembers it as a great bonding time.
Interviewing these teachers made me realize how much teachers impact our lives as students when growing up. These role models are the foundation of our lives and inspire us to potentially become teachers ourselves.
