In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, I have decided to interview my favorite teacher, Coach Montes! I chose Coach Montes because you can tell he truly cares about the atmosphere and environment he creates for his students in his classroom. Coach Montes tries to engage and encourage his students to do their best every day. He reminds us to be ourselves and always have a positive attitude.
Coach Montes has been a part of Itasca ISD for two years now. He is our history teacher and head softball coach. Coach Montes was born on April 9th, 1999. He enjoys playing golf and country dancing in his free time. He has many favorite songs, but his all-time favorite is “Like a Stone” by Audioslave.
Coach Montes decided to become a teacher because growing up, his teachers had a great influence on him, and he wants to have the same impact on his students. Coach Montes says that his proudest accomplishment as a coach here at Itasca High School was making it to the playoffs in softball 2 years in a row, and his proudest accomplishment as a teacher has been his students having over a 90% passing rate in all of his classes.
Coach Montes says the greatest struggle he’s faced as a teacher has been learning to have patience, but patience is also the greatest thing he’s gained from being a teacher. Coach Montes enjoys teaching because he likes getting to interact with his students and grow with them.
His advice to any people who plan to become educators is to give your 100% every day, and keep in mind that everything you do can affect your students in life.
