Itasca High School Cell Phone/Device Policy in Response to HB 1481
- All students will be required to turn in their cell phone, smart watch, and/or air pods, to their teacher prior to the start of each class period.
- All students will be required to leave their cell phone, smart watch, and/or air pods, in their 5th period class. The devices will remain locked-up during the advisory and lunch period. Students pick up their device/phone after lunch as they proceed to their 6th period class.
- At the end of the day, at dismissal, students will be allowed to take their device/phone when they leave.
- Any student seen with a device at any time during the school day, including lunch, gym, classes, or passing periods, will be subject to the district policy disciplinary action:
- Offense #1: Device will be taken to Chief Lattin, parent will be called and the device must be picked up by the parent/guardian, documentation will be placed in Ascender
- Offense #2: Device taken to Chief Lattin, parent will be called and the device must be picked up by the parent/guardian, student will serve 2 days ISS
- Offense #3: Device taken to Chief Lattin, parent/guardian will be called, student will serve 5 days ISS and device will be kept for the remainder of the semester.
*The law is the only warning for student compliance with the policy. Students will not be asked to put away a device, it will be taken up the first time.
