Here at Itasca, two of our paw print members have interviewed a handful of our students who attend our High School, asking them to tell us their top favorite sport they enjoy watching the most that our district provides for us. We ranked the top 3 sports based on their popularity in the replies received.
Basketball – 10
Volleyball – 6
Cross country – 4
Not only did Basketball secure its spot at the top, but we found something in common within the responses. People who find basketball their favorite enjoy watching because of the ‘intense” and “energetic” energy/action they get to witness, finding it to be the most eye-catching. Especially when coaches start getting overheated in the game with the refs, and sometimes towards the players. Others reply with having a special connection with basketball. But beyond personal connections, we found out that friends also tend to play a part in deciding our favorites. A few underclassmen have found their favorites because they look up to our upperclassmen and enjoy watching them participate and compete. Volleyball gained its popularity because a few people agree that they find the sport to be full of surprises. Seeing people try to keep a ball from hitting the ground truly sparks a few new points of action. Cross country, while in third, made the long run into people’s interest, seeing people run such a distance is something people find more impressive than we would think.
