To our teachers, we send our appreciation for putting up with every single one of us as their students, even during the annoying and memorable times we’ve made. Students of Itasca won’t let them go unappreciated. Let’s not forget, everyone was once young and will experience high school at least once, right? To answer that question, I interviewed a fellow teacher, Mr. Benson! “Who was a teacher you appreciated when you were in high school? Why were they your favorite? Favorite memory? Any embarrassing/funny moments?” I asked, and here are his answers!
Mr. Benson –
My theater teacher, her name was Ms. Dourette, Dourette with a “D”, she made that very specific because otherwise people called her Ms. Tourettes. I had her two times in the day; her classes were fun, we did theater stuff, learned how to memorize scripts, and read Shakespeare. I did lead roles in the Gypsy play. I played Herbert, who was the main lead role. He was like the dad, and we did a play called Boys Next Door, where we were all mentally challenged people who lived together in a community. We made people cry with that one, but I played several roles.
After a curtain call, we would all like the whole group to go to her house to celebrate, and she had a giant space bean bag. It was massive, and we all fought over it, and we had like 20 people trying to lie on this one bean bag at her house.
Funniest memory, one day I had a crush on a girl, she was also in the theater, and we were also in class together. I walked in one day, and she was sitting there. I thought she looked pretty, so I, don’t ask me why, I blurted out “look at those boulders. Those are some nice boulders,” and everyone laughed, but Ms Dourete did not find it very funny. She shook her head at me disappointedly. I wasn’t really smart, you know, teenagers aren’t very good with stuff like that.
