This year at Itasca Middle School, 8th graders have started a new program called AVID, led by Mrs. Darlene. AVID is a class to help students prepare for their future by teaching them academic skills such as note-taking, organization, and using WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading) strategies.
All 8th-grade AVID students went on a field trip to a college fair at the HILCO Event Center in November to discover different local colleges. There were a variety of colleges for everyone to choose from, and each college had its own table to explain what they offered. One table even had a spinning wheel that let students win a prize!
