The Itasca Class of 1956 is organizing a 70th class reunion at Hillsboro’s La Quinta Inn, April 28th.
From Mr. Robert Taylor- Class of 1956:
“We have 17 members left of the 45-member class, which experienced unusual events during our time at IHS. In the earliest years we were schooled in the classrooms located in the gymnasium. From there we progressed to the big brick school. In fifth grade we were the first class to be schooled in the old Bois D’Arc country school building that was moved from the country to the Itasca campus. Then fire took the two-story, brick school following our sixth-grade year. That resulted in us going to school in the Baptist church later that year. Then we were among the first students in the newly constructed building. And to further change our final school year, the gymnasium was destroyed by fire and the basketball team had to take to the road.
We have continued to keep up with each other as a family for 70 years. Our class members’ careers have included science, technology, sales, military, aviation, farming, education, homemaking, journalism, communications, soil conservation, coaching, banking, beauty salon owner, health care, artist, mechanical, radio, chemistry, marketing, metal machining, administration and band leader among others. All are proud to be Itasca Wampus Cats, who received good educations.
We encourage other year’s class members to visit us during the day on Tuesday, the 28th. This is the proposed schedule:
