Meet Mrs. Amanda Vasquez, who is a 4th-grade math teacher. She was born in Austin, TX, and her spouse is a man named Kenny. She went to Dallas Baptist University to study education, from which she graduated in 2018. She chose to teach math because she has always struggled with math, so she can better relate to her students and give them what she didn’t have growing up. She doesn’t have any kids, but she does have 3 dogs named Rebel, Dixie, and Sadie. She would describe herself as a very happy, creative, and silly person. Her hometown is Cleburne, TX, and she attended Bowie High School. Something unique about her is that she likes to crochet. When she was in high school and college, her extracurricular activities were choir and dance. Her grandma and the fact that she wants to make a difference are what inspired her to teach. Her advice to high school students to help them along the way is “bad things happen, but life keeps moving.” Her hobbies consist of reading, doing crafts, and hanging out with her dogs. If she weren’t a teacher, she would be a counselor. Her role model is her grandmother. She has been teaching for going on 3 years. She came from Orecity, where she taught third grade, and she chose to work at Itasca because she said when she came for the interview, it just felt like family, but everyone was welcoming, and Itasca is the type of place made for every kid, and when they say every kid, they truly mean it. Her favorite food and drink are popcorn and Dr. Pepper, which pair nicely with her favorite book, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Her favorite quote is “Don’t let the fear of striking out keep you out of the game.”
